When looking at campfire tripods there are three primary things that your tripod must feature.
Stability: When cooking with a tripod the most important factor to consider is the models stability. I like to go camping with a large group of friends and when cooking for multiple people I load my dutch oven up. The weight adds up quickly and cheap and unstable campfire tripods can be a tipping and collapsing hazard.
Quality Materials: I’ve noticed an increase of cheaply made products coming out on the market. These cheap, mass produced tripods are made from inferior materials resulting in numerous problems. When rating for the best campfire tripod I take the quality of materials into consideration.
Durability: I spend a lot of time out in the woods. I go on multiple multi-day backpacking trips a year in addition to traditional camping trips and long horse trail rides. Because of this, my outdoor gear sees a lot of use and I find out quickly who makes quality products and which one’s are not worth our hard earned money. A campfire tripod should be made to last multiple trips with failure.

Solo Stove Tripod Compact Lightweight Aluminum
This is an excellent lightweight campfire tripod that is ideal for hiking, camping, and trail riding. It is easy to set up and disassemble while storing in a compact space. Constructed of quality aluminum is what makes it lightweight but it is still durable. Aluminum will never be as strong as an iron tripod but that is the price you pay for the mobility of this model.

Rome Products Tri-Pod Grill
This is a great campfire grilling tripod ideal for camping and backyard grilling. This is an incredibly durable iron cooking tripod. It is quite heavy so it isn’t intended for hiking or backpacking. It is easy to set up and has a 20.5″ diameter grilling surface. This tripod had no problem handling my fully loaded dutch oven.

Coleman Campfire Tripod Grill
This is a good balanced and stable cooking tripod. It is relatively light making is a great model for weekend camping and day trips. It has a 17″ grill cooking surface and while not quite as strong as the picks above it still had no trouble with my dutch oven cooking. You can adjust the grill height with the hanging chain and the legs are constructed of good quality galvanized steel.

Stansport Cast Iron Camp Fire Tripod
This is an exceptionally durable and stable campfire tripod. It is perfect for campers and backyard grilling. It is built to last with cast iron and steel. At 13 pounds it isn’t for hiking, so keep that in mind. It has an adjustable chain with an S hook to hang your dutch oven from. This is a great camping tripod for the money.

Lodge 5TP2 Tall Campfire Tripod
This is a very nice steel campfire cooking tripod. It comes in multiple sizes so I opted for the 60″ leg version. It was sturdy and stable even with a full dutch oven. It has a solid adjustable chain that is 32″ long. It’s constructed from strong steel making this a long lasting campfire tripod.
